Debi Is a freelance theatre director…

…with a particular interest in feminist narratives and inventive storytelling. As a person who is vocal about their queerness and chronic illness their rehearsal spaces aim to be inclusive and accessible.

In 2023 Debi was a finalist for Creative Edinburgh’s Freelancer Award after working consistently throughout the year as a director, assistant and associate director for small and midscale theatres in Scotland including The Royal Lyceum Theatre (Anna Karenina, Frankenstein). 

In 2022 Debi was awarded an Assistant Director Bursary by the Federation of Scottish Theatre in partnership with The Traverse Theatre where they assisted with research and development projects lead by Gareth Nichols, Apphia Campbell and Isabel McArthur.

Their experience is broad-ranging from developing new writing to performing and directing Shakespeare having received mentorship from Bard in The Botanics, Dr Donna Soto-Morrettini & The Globe Education.

Originally from rural Aberdeenshire Debi holds an HND in Acting & Performance (2014), a BA(Hons) in Acting for Stage & Screen (2016) and an MFA in Directing with distinction (2021).
